Richland Two Black Parents Association to Hold School To Prison Pipeline Discussion
WHAT IS THIS: The Richland Two Black Parents Association is hosting a School to Prison Pipeline discussion to make parents aware of their rights, roles and responsibilities according to the laws of South Carolina.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Parents if you have had issues with your children or if you know of a neighbor or friend who has experienced children being suspended, expelled or mistreated in our schools unfairly YOU NEED TO ATTEND!!
Topics that will covered in this symposium will include:
- School Discipline Policies and how these policies interact with behaviors in schools
- Parents Rights and Responsibilities under sections of the Federal Law such as 504 Plans and IEP Plans
- The high rate of Suspension and Expulsions of African American Children
- The states Disturbing School Law
- Culture and cultural sensitivity
“This is going to be a most informative discussion for parents. Parents will have the opportunity to not only listen but to discuss issues regarding their children in schools and ask the experts in the field questions”. There will be attorneys on hand as well as a number of professional experts in the areas of 504’s, IEP’s Suspensions and Expulsions”. “There will also be lots of information that parents must know". "We are encouraging all parents to come and attend to be armed with the information”, says a spokesperson for the event.
The forum will take place on April 28, 2016 at the Clemson Sandhills Research Center located at 900 Clemson Road Columbia, South Carolina 29229 beginning at 6:00 PM.
